  1. What is Volvo Trucks United States’ “I am a Volvo Trucker”"

    “I am a Volvo Trucker” is a Facebook app designed for commercial heavy-haul drivers in the United States and Canada to share the Volvo trucks they drive. By using the Facebook app, you agree that Volvo Trucks North America can use your photo and content as a submission under its Terms and Conditions.

  2. Why should I upload my photo to “I am a Volvo Trucker”?

    "By uploading photo/s, you get to show your Volvo truck to an entire community of Volvo Trucks drivers. More photos allow Volvo Truck drivers in the United States and Canada to share and engage with a community. Photos may also be featured on the Facebook app as stated in the Terms and Conditions.

  3. Can I send you any commercial heavy-haul truck photo?

    No. We only accept photos of your Volvo Trucks model/s sold and driven in the United States or Canada. You must have photographed it yourself and own the copyrights. Uploading photos that you do not own the copyrights to is a violation of international copyright laws and are subject legal action. If you would like to send us photos taken by your friend or another contact, you must have proof of the copyright holder’s permission before uploading the photograph.

  4. How important is scanning and photo quality?

    We accept the best and high quality photos. Photos may be rejected due to low scan or photo quality. Using a good scanner and camera may improve the chances of getting your photo approved. If using a scanner, try to find the best DPI or scanner settings. If using a camera, please look below at Question 5 (Q5) for more tips on taking the best quality photos. We recommend that photos be bigger than 850x570 pixels. Keep the format at or near 16:9 aspect ratio or larger.

  5. How do I take a photo for the best quality?

    It is important to get the best and high quality photos for “I am a Volvo Trucker”. We reject photos for low esthetic qualities. Please review these tips on how to take the best photos:
    Shooting

    • Move in closer to the subject (i.e.. Volvo truck) for a better shot.
    • Choose the best light and angle.
    • Try to capture as much of the subject (i.e. Volvo truck) as possible.
    • Be quick and take more than one photo.
    • Never shoot from behind a window.

    Composure

    • Keep the horizon level by holding the camera straight.
    • Crop out unnecessary elements from the photograph.
    • Consciously place your subject (i.e.. Volvo truck) where you think it belongs best.
    • Use perspective that leads the eyes to your main subject (i.e. Volvo truck).
    • Work with the Rule of Thirds.

    Selection

    • Keep any distractions out of the photograph.
    • Move around to find a good angle.
    • Focus on the subject instead of the background.
    • Choose a suitable background for the subject (i.e. Volvo truck).

    Subject

    • Focus on your subject (i.e. Volvo truck).
    • Pay attention to depth. A smaller depth-of-field will help subjects stand out from the background.
    • Use a fast shutter speed for subjects in motion.

    Light

    • Be sure the subject is in or near indirect light.
    • Use weather to your advantage.

    Safety

    • Never take photos in a moving vehicle.
    • Be sure that your subject (i.e. Volvo truck) is stationed or turned off.

  6. How many photos can I send in?

    We accept photos one at a time using the submission form, but you may upload as many as you want. Please refrain from sending similar photos. If you have a series of photos taken in sequence, select and upload only the best and highest quality photo.

  7. What photo format should I use?

    We accept JPG (.jpg), JPEG (.jpeg) and TIFF (.tiff) file formats for photographs. Please refrain uploading raw, GIF (.gif) or PNG (.png) file formats. You may convert format of your photographs using a photo editor or Photoshop.

  8. What photo size or resolution do you recommend for the best quality?

    We recommend that photos be bigger than 850x570 pixels. Keep the format at or near 16:9 aspect ratio or larger. Your photos should be less than 4 megabytes (MB). Acceptable large photos will be automatically resized.

  9. Does the filename of my photo matter?

    No. You may upload an acceptable photo with any filename.

  10. What web browser should I use?

    To get the best experience possible, we recommend that you update you browser to the latest version of Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer or Opera.

  11. What about copyright issues?

    You keep the copyright on all the photos you upload to “I am a Volvo Trucker”. Please do not upload photos that you do not own the copyrights to.

  12. How do I know if I own the copyrights to my photos?

    You own the copyrights to any photograph that you take yourself. All images photographed by you are copyright protected, owned by you and can be uploaded to “I am a Volvo Trucker”.

  13. I can’t use the Facebook app form to send in my photos. Can I send them by e-mail?

    No. Please use the submission form on “I am a Volvo Trucker” to upload your photos and fill out the fields on the form.

  14. What should I write in the caption form?

    Please include a caption that describes where and why the photograph was taken. You can include information about your Volvo truck including year, specifications and options. We encourage sharing stories about you and your Volvo truck that you feel other truck drivers would enjoy reading. Always use English and do not type in all capitals.

  15. How will I know when my photo has been added to the map?

    After you upload a photo, it will be reviewed and, if approved, added to the map within 24-48 hours. Check the map after the approval period to see if your photo has been approved.

  16. Can I submit a photo if I don’t drive in the United States or Canada?

    No. The “I am a Volvo Trucker” Facebook app is designed for Volvo Truck drivers in the United States and Canada.

  17. Can you give me more specific reasons why a photo would be rejected?

    A photo may be rejected if it does not adhere to the Terms and Conditions of the “I am a Volvo Trucker” Facebook app. Reasons may include copyright issues, models of Volvo Trucks outside of the United States and Canada, and low quality photographs.   18. Can I put my contact, copyright or other distinctive symbol on my photo?

    No. Please remove any contact, copyright or other distinctive symbols from your photo before uploading them to the “I am a Volvo Trucker” Facebook app.

  19. What if I want to have my photos removed from the map and the app?

    All uploaded photos are subject to the Terms and Conditions of the “I am a Volvo Trucker” Facebook app. Once you upload a photo, it may be displayed and will not be taken down.

  20. I’ve uploaded a photo and I would like to change info or update the photo. How do I do this?

    You will not be able to change info or update a photo once it has been submitted. Please check to make sure all user information and photographs are accurate before submitting your photo. If you have a better quality photo than one submitted before, you may upload another submission.

  21. How can I have my photo featured?

    Featured photos are displayed at the bottom of the “I am a Volvo Trucker” Facebook app. An editor approves photographs for the best and highest quality, complete information, relevance and interest. For a chance to be featured, make sure your photograph reflects Volvo Trucks in the best possible light, angle, etc. As the quality of photos rise, the featured requirements may increase.
